At Energy Assurance we utilizes our extensive knowledge of batteries and testing to provide the battery powered product industry with a comprehensive, affordable and responsive testing resource to help our clients verify the performance as well as achieve the necessary compliance needs of their portable batteries. We are an accredited battery testing lab with certifications from TÜV SÜD America, Underwriters Laboratories, ANAB and IECEE.
We strive to establish a long term relationship with our customers by offering industry specific advice to assure our cell and battery manufacturing customers are able to deliver products into their global markets on time and performing properly. A large part of this is our focus on working with our customers as early in the development process as possible to mitigate risk. This is done by developing an up front understanding of the standards and requirements that their product will be subjected to – including design impact and failure criteria. The rapport we establish with our customers is what sets Energy Assurance apart.
Cindy Millsaps is President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Energy Assurance, LLC. Prior to establishing Energy Assurance, she worked in global regulatory approvals, quality systems management, product safety and product qualification testing with emphasis on information technology equipment, power/energy and batteries. Beginning her career with Underwriters Laboratories (UL) she moved to Motorola where she was part of the start-up management team at Motorola Product Testing Services.
Cindy uses her expertise to understand changes in standards and what the changes mean to cell and battery manufacturers. She also helps define early in the process what to expect for testing and assists design engineers in planning to save time and money and meet deadlines.
Many industry trade publications have published Cindy’s articles with special attention to her interpretation of changes in industry standards and how they impact cell manufacturers and suppliers. In addition to advising her clients, she serves on Underwriters Laboratories Standards Technical Panel for UL 62133, UL 1642 and UL 2054 where decisions are made that impact the future of the industry.
John Copeland is Vice President and Chief Operations Officer of Energy Assurance, LLC. Prior to establishing Energy Assurance with Cindy Millsaps, he acquired extensive experience at Motorola Energy Systems Group where he held a number of engineering and business roles over 17 years, including Manufacturing Quality Engineer, Failure Analysis Engineer (Power Electronics & Batteries), Reliability Assurance Engineer and Supplier Auditor. John transitioned to become the initial Program Manager for the startup of Motorola Product Testing Services (MPTS) where he was responsible for business management and project delivery for multiple third-party testing accounts. With his extensive knowledge of battery testing, John was selected to represent Motorola as a subcommittee chair for the development of IEEE 1725 (Standard for Rechargeable Batteries for Cellular Telephones) and led the follow-up-efforts as Committee Chair of the CTIA Battery Certification Program based upon IEEE 1725. For these efforts, John twice received an award for excellence in standards development from Motorola. (CTIA-THE WIRELESS ASSOCIATION®, is an international non-profit membership organization representing the wireless communications industry).
John’s most recent role with Motorola was as the Senior Quality Manager for Warranty & Service, responsible for management of post-shipment quality for all of Motorola Mobility’s cellular accessories. In this position John also led multiple product and process improvement activities as a Six-Sigma Black Belt and was responsible for coordination of anti-counterfeit support for accessory products. John holds independent certifications as an ASQ Certified Quality Engineer, ASQ Certified Reliability Engineer and ASQ Certified Quality Auditor.
John holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Auburn University and a Master of Science in Quality Assurance from Southern Polytechnic State University. His initial career was as a Marine Officer working in tactical communications serving in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

Energy Assurance LLC is pleased to be partnered with TÜV SÜD America as a full service test house for the testing of small format batteries in the United States. The Energy Assurance/TÜV SÜD America partnership combines the unique strengths of each organization to provide battery manufacturers with expert technical resources and compliance solutions designed to meet the demanding requirements of the battery-powered product industry. Energy Assurenace is an accredited battery testing lab. All work performed in cooperation with TÜV SÜD America is recognized under their CARAT program and allows us to offer our customers Third Party Certification services. These certification services will provide customers with the ability to obtain a TÜV SÜD America Mark on their products to commonly required US safety standards (UL 62133, UL 2054 and UL 1642), ,international standards (IEC 62133 and IEC 60086-4) and transportation standards (UN 38.3 and IEC 62281).
